1.  I was originally curious about the large round boulder on the left of the path - does this ever move or roll?  Is there a hidden way of moving it?  After playing the game for awhile now and trying various maneuvers, I don't believe that there are any tricks associated with this boulder (at least I haven't found any!)
2.  When sliding down the rope - how do you jump to the first level when there are 2 levels as you slide down?  After playing awhile now, I don't think that its possible to get to this level.
3.  When coming to the cliffs, sometimes you can see islands or structure out over the cliffs.  Is there a way to get to them??  After playing awhile now, I don't think that you can get to this island.  What would you do once you got there anyway, right?  :-)
4.  Anyone find any hidden items in the mine tunnels?  After playing awhile now, I have yet to find any hidden items or tunnels here.  I am amazed that they hadn't made at least one secret passage way in here somewhere.  
5.  Ok, I just had to add this.  How many of you went sailing off this cliff the first couple times that you played?   I think that it took me 3 or 4 tries until I stopped dying at this spot .  In case you are not aware, there are paths to the left and right before the cliff - just swipe left or right to avoid your death!

I typically try to just lean around the red tiles on the ground instead of jumping over them.

Jumping Over Double Obstacles
The more treacherous obstacles I have encountered in the game happens when there are two obstacles back to back. Most of the time it will be a spiked wheel and a river. If you time your jump just right, you can clear both of these in one bound. Wait until the very last moment before jumping over the first obstacle and you should be able to clear them both.

Use The Right Powerups
Some powerups are quite a bit better at getting you more coins, higher scores, and longer runs than others.

As you can see, the cost doubles every time, so this can save a lot of your valuable gems. Purchasing three Save Me ability upgrades will make your first three deaths only cost 1 gem each.

Once you master the mine cart areas, they'll actually become some of the easier areas in the game.
One of the more important tips is to not focus as much on getting gems when you're in the mine cart. Pick up the gems that you can reach easily, but don't go out of your way for them until you get better in the mine carts. It's not worth getting a few more coins if you die in the process.

I've noticed that if I try too hard and focus too much, I fail more often. Some of my longest runs are when I'm relaxed and just using my instincts.
Also, try not to focus directly on your character. Spread out your view to what's coming ahead so you can adequately prepare for oncoming obstacles.

Jump Before Cliff Hangers
Something that will help you survive cliff hangers (those areas where there's only one safe side to run on, and the other side is broken off) a bit easier is to get used to jumping right as you see them. As you're in the air, lean toward the side you can run on, and you'll land there.

When a developer makes a game as wildly popular as Temple Run, they usually don’t want to change the formula too much in a sequel. With Temple Run 2, the folks at Imangi Studios have played it fairly safe, but they’ve managed to improve on just about every aspect of the original. Temple Run 2 uses the same basic gameplay, but it’s more beautiful, dynamic, and intense than the original. Best of all, this excellent game doesn’t cost a cent to download.
Just like Temple Run, the sequel starts with you, an intrepid explorer, stealing a golden artifact from a cave. This releases a giant beast that pursues you until it catches you, or you succumb to the deadly environment. All the same controls from the original are back, so you’ll swipe up to jump over pits, down to slide under rocks, and left or right to turn when the path forks.
The graphics are drop-dead gorgeous this time around, with lush, colorful landscapes everywhere you turn. The environments are much more dynamic as well, with straightaways and right angles of the original game supplanted by hills, valleys, creeks, waterfalls, and gentle curves here. The developers have even added zip lines and mine carts to keep the game interesting– and it works wonders. The only issue is the occasional graphical pop-in, but this usually isn’t too distracting.
Once again, you collect coins as you run. You can spend your fortunes on new characters and upgrades between tries. Since this is a freemium game, you can also buy gems that let you keep running after you bite the dust. This makes the leaderboards meaningless, but that’s a small price to pay for getting such an excellent game for free.
We could go on and on about why Temple Run 2 is a blast to play, but you’d be better off downloading it to see for yourself. The game delivers a fantastic blend of addictive action and high-octane intensity that feels both familiar and new. Whether you played the original or not, this sequel definitely deserves a spot on your iOS device.

Temple Run 2 Review: Old Familiar Feeling

The biggest improvement in Temple Run 2 is in the graphics department. The game has been built from scratch in Unity and boasts gorgeous lighting and colors as well as extremely fluid animations. My one gripe is that the draw distance isn't the best, which means environmental elements will pop-in right in front of your eyes. It doesn't really bother if you're focusing on not dying like you should be, but it's still kind of disappointing considering what iOS devices are capable of.

The original Temple Run didn't have that great of a draw distance either, but it was masked quite ingeniously using a fog effect that worked well with the dank jungle theme. InTemple Run 2 you're running in a temple in the sky, so everything is right out there in the open. This new sky temple is great though, offering a much more dynamic feel to the level design. The track will curve, dip and elevate in ways that the rigid straightaways of the first game never did. It feels like a more organic environment, and it also keeps you on your toes just a tad bit more since you never really know what's coming around the next bend.

Like I said before Temple Run 2 is a beautiful game, and there's a greater variety to the types of scenery you'll see, like various temple ruins architecture and forests with sunbeams poking through the leaves. There's a couple of new environmental elements too, like a zip line to ride and mine cart sections. These parts aren't drastically different from the rest of the game's normal running, but they do add some additional drama and excitement to your adventure.

Temple Run 2 brings back 4 playable characters from the original, and each one is associated with a specific power-up. As you unlock the additional characters beyond the default Guy Dangerous, their associated power-ups become unlocked too for any character. There's the standard set of upgradeable attributes too, like a Head Start boost and a coin value increaser, which are also shared across all characters.

The power-up you choose for your character can be activated with a double tap once you've collected enough coins to fill up the associated meter on your screen. The power-up itself can be upgraded too, using the game's premium gem currency. Both coins and gems are available as IAP and are also earned through play. The coins come at a relatively fast clip, especially if you splurge on the IAP coin doubler, but the gems are typically few and far between. It still feels balanced though as the number of gems needed for normal upgrading is gradual.

One other use for the premium gems and something that's a huge change in Temple Run 2 from its predecessor (as well as a point of contention with some of its fans) is the ability to continue your run after a death by spending gems. This essentially sullies the scoring as in theory you could drop enough cash on IAP gems that you could just continue on forever.

The cost to continue doubles in gems each time, and it's possible there's a limit to how much you can continue that I just haven't seen yet. Even so I'm not super interested in the leaderboards anyway so it doesn't really bother me, I just have fun playing for the sake of it. Still, adding a special "sudden death" leaderboard where continuing with gems isn't allowed would be a nice compromise. Really what's more annoying to me is the un-skippable continue countdown that plays after a run ends. It would be nice to be able to immediately retry.

If you weren't a huge fan of the first Temple Run then I doubt the sequel will drastically change your mind. Though, it's free, so I'd say just try it anyway just in case it clicks differently for you this time around. You don't have anything to lose. If you loved the original game then I think you'll love Temple Run 2 just as much or more so. Granted the continuing aspect is kind of suspect and there's some minor technical issues, but Temple Run 2's improvements far outweigh its flaws.

There are plenty of more complex runners out there, and the beauty of the App Store is that you're free to play any and all of them to suit your tastes. But Temple Run 2's simplicity and intangible "something" is what made its predecessor a game that I always went back to even in the face of a smorgasbord of alternatives, and it's what will keep this on my device easily within thumb's reach for a long time to come.

There’s a two-currency system now, and while that’s usually a reason to groan, this is handled in a way more akin to NimbleBit’s games than most other free-to-play titles. Coins can still be collected, but now there’s gems, which appear infrequently throughout. These can be used to revive when dead, replacing the system of buying them before the game. The cost to revive goes up each time, though there is an upgrade to make it cheaper. As well, they can be used to temporarily power up the permanent player ability for one game. It’s actually very well handled, and prevents abuse of the revive system like in the original, as certain people were wont to do.

What is this permanent player ability, though? Well, in the original, earning coins would cause players to earn a big coin. Now, earning coins charges up an ability that can be unleashed by double-tapping on the screen. This means that a powerup like a shield or magnet can be deployed instantly whenever the bar fills up. These abilities can’t be bought outright, they have to be earned by unlocking characters or advancing to a certain experience level.

Most importantly, playing Temple Run 2 is a simple reminder of why the original was such a hit, and why it stnads above all imitators. Its mechanics are still pristine. Its controls are still pretty much immaculate. The formula has been tweaked, and I think it has come out for the better. It’s evolution, not revolution, but it’s still Temple Run and it’s sitll a lot of fun.
